WEEHAWKEN BRIEFS

Students honored for drug awareness posters

The Weehawken Town Council and Mayor Richard F. Turner presented proclamations to two students at their meeting on Oct. 26.

Each year, the Weehawken Elks hold a Drug Awareness Poster and Essay Contest. Last year, Jean Carlos Salinas Rivera won first place in the poster contest for third grade. He went on to win first place in the Elks East District contest. He recently was awarded second place for the New Jersey Elks Association for the entire state for his poster and received a plaque from the New Jersey Elks Association and a proclamation from the New Jersey State Assembly.

At the Town Council meeting he was awarded a proclamation from the mayor and town council for his accomplishments.

At that same meeting, Tenley Tejral also received a proclamation for her accomplishments. Last year she won first place in the Weehawken Elks Drug Awareness Essay Contest for sixth grade. She went on to win first place in the Elks East District and second place for the state of New Jersey and also received a proclamation.
