Volunteer tax return preparers needed in Essex and Hudson counties

Dear Editor:
Tax-Aide is a nationwide program of the IRS and AARP, which provides tax return preparation services, particularly for low income taxpayers and the elderly.
In Essex and Hudson Counties, Tax-Aide is in need of volunteers to work during the upcoming tax season. This work is very rewarding. Our volunteers are energized by the delight of our clients to have an arduous task taken off of their hands.
Training will be provided between November and January in Livingston and Montclair. After training, you will take an IRS test (open book, at your pace, at home or wherever you choose). Successful candidates will be certified by the IRS and able to volunteer in libraries, senior centers or United Way facilities in East Orange, Irvington, Jersey City, Livingston, Maplewood, Montclair, Orange, South Orange or West Orange.
Our working hours are weekday mornings to early afternoons, between February 1 and April 15.
Volunteers should be comfortable with using a computer and have some familiarity with a tax return, even if only preparing their own. If you fit the description, please join us by contacting Donald White at dawhiteone@comcast.net.
