County emergency management office issues weather alert

HUDSON COUNTY — The county’s Office of Emergency Management has issued this statement for Wednesday:

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
HARRISON WEATHER CENTER OPERATIONS
9:00 AM EST – WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 24, 2016
A COLD FRONT WITH ASSOCIATED LOW PRESSURE WILL BRING PERIODS OF RAIN TODAY INTO THURSDAY MORNING, SOME OF THE RAIN CAN BE HEAVY AT TIMES AND MAY PRODUCE URBAN FLOODING IN LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.
A STRONG COLD FRONT IS EXPECTED TO CROSS THE REGION TONIGHT ACCOMPANIED BY ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL, STRONG WINDS AND POSSIBLE CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.
HWC HAS POSTED A HIGH WIND ALERT FOR WIND GUST LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT BETWEEN
40 TO 50 MPH POSSIBLE. THESE WINDS CAN DAMAGE TREE AND POWER LINES.
ANYTHING LOOSE OUTDOORS SHOULD BE EITHER SECURED OR BROUGHT INDOORS.
TEMPERATURES CURRENTLY AROUND 40 DEGREES WILL RISE INTO THE 50S LATER TODAY AND INTO TONIGHT. ON THURSDAY LOOK FOR A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS TO DEVELOP WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 50S TO LOWER 60S WITH GUSTY WINDS.
