Union City celebrates birth of Cuban patriot Jose Marti Friday night

UNION CITY — Union City will hold a cultural event commemorating the 158th anniversary of the birth of Cuban patriot Jose Marti entitled “Inspirations of Jose Marti” on tonight at 7 p.m. at the Jose Marti Freshman Academy, 1800 Summit Ave.
The event will feature several guest speakers; a music presentation by pianist Gilberto Perez Lavastida and vocalist Mariano Vidal; a special reading by Cuban poet Jay Gonzalez, “The Actor of Poetry”; several dance selections by dancers from Yolanda’s Dance Academy; and a special presentation by renowned author and poet Ines Del Castillo.
A special gift of a layette will be given to the proud parents of the first baby born on Jan. 28. Additionally, an art exhibit by local Cuban artists will be on display. Cuban food will be served and admission is free. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.
