Multi-alarm fire displaces five families on Park Avenue
Five families were displaced and lost many of their belongings in a devastating fire at Park Avenue and 74th Street on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Everyone made it out safely thanks to the swift response of North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue and the North Bergen Police Department. One firefighter was injured and one resident was treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters responded to the scene about 10:30 a.m. and were met with heavy flames coming from the three-story residence. Residents of the buildings on either side were evacuated while the firefighters battled the blaze. Fire departments from Jersey City and Bayonne were on hand to assist with mutual aid.
Mayor Nicholas Sacco visited the scene of the tragedy and met with the families along with Commissioner Hugo Cabrera and Freeholder Anthony Vainieri. The families were relocated and the American Red Cross made resources available in their time of need.

Meet the North Bergen Police Department at Four TAPS Meetings in November
The North Bergen Police Department will host four informal community meetings throughout the township in November. North Bergen residents are encouraged to voice their concerns and discuss issues in person with members of the police department.
The initiative, known as N.B. Residents get to meet the officers who patrol their neighborhoods, and the officers learn about any matters of concern directly from the residents.

The first is Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Main Library on 8411 Bergenline Ave. On Thursday, Nov. 17 it takes place in North Bergen Town Hall Chambers, Lower Level, at 4233 Kennedy Blvd. On Wednesday, Nov. 23 the meeting is in Applied Housing Community Room at 2615 Kennedy Blvd. On Monday, Nov. 28 the meeting is at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Lower Level, on 8101 Kennedy Blvd.
