Hoboken resident aims to break world record

HOBOKEN–Patrick Murray, a 28-year-old, 8-year Hoboken resident, will attempt to break a world record this coming Saturday Oct 22.
The world record is for the most one-armed pushups with a 40 lb-weight in a minute.
Currently the record is for 33 repetitions held by Hiroyuki Gondou of Japan, according to the Guinness World Records.
Murray, a meditation coach and health and wellness specialist who works with veterans, said that he is aiming for 38 or 39 repetitions.
He said that through his practices he has been able to achieve 39 repetitions.
“They are very strict on form, so that’s what I have been focusing on,” he said. “Just hitting 90 degrees at my elbow and keeping my body straight, but I am ready to go.”
Murray said that he has been an athlete his entire life. He wrestled when he was younger, but he never stopped training hard. He said he wants to challenge himself to be the best.
Murray will attempt to break the record at noon in Red Bank, New Jersey, at the Underground Gym at 46 Newman Springs Rd. He welcomes anyone who wishes to attend.
