New Gutt councilman is Wayne Zitt, chief of staff to Assemblywoman Jimenez

GUTTENBERG – After interviewing three candidates, the mayor and Town Council of Guttenberg unanimously selected Wayne D. Zitt Jr. to serve as the new council member. Former Councilman Efrain Velez resigned earlier this month.
Zitt is currently the chief of staff to Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez. “He will continue in that capacity,” said Guttenberg Town Clerk Albert Cabrera. “There is no conflict of interest.”
Velez moved out of state and resigned his position effective Friday, Dec. 4. Zitt was interviewed by the remaining council members on Monday, Dec. 14, along with Joel Magenheimer and William Hokien, who were also considered for the position. Magenheimer declined to serve, since he was recently elected by voters as a school board trustee and will be sworn into that position in January.
A council reorganization meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 4 in Guttenberg Town Hall, 6808 Park Ave. Zitt will be ceremonially sworn in at that time.
He succeeds Velez as the director of the Guttenberg Department of Public Works.
