Jersey city councilman changes mind on measure to remove Trump name from building

JERSEY CITY — Councilman Khemraj “Chico” Ramchal of Jersey City has said that he will withdraw his resolution — set for this coming Wednesday’s council meeting — advocating removing real estate developer and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s name from the Trump Tower in Jersey City.
The resolution would ask residents of the building to urge for the removal of the Trump name after Trump’s controversial comments claiming that thousands of local Muslims celebrated the 2001 terrorist attacks. Since then, Trump has also sought to ban Muslims from entering the country.
NJ.com reported over the weekend that Ramchal said the matter is now “old news” and the resolution would be symbolic anyway.
The NJ.com story noted, “The councilman said he had been on vacation and didn’t realize until today that the measure was slated for next week’s council meeting. He said he’s going to ask Council President Rolando Lavarro to withdraw it from consideration. The council meets on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 280 Grove St.”
