The girls of summer are back!

Organized baseball started in Hoboken, and Hoboken’s Maria Pepe was the center of a national battle in 1972 to let girls play in Little League, so obviously baseball is big here – just like Frank Sinatra and zeppoles. Through local leagues such as Little League and RBI, hundreds of kids recently came out swinging to start the new season.
This week, we present photos of some of the girls playing Hoboken Softball in the Hoboken RBI league, affiliated with major league baseball. Watch next week’s paper for Little League teams. And keep an eye out for some scores in the future.
The sport teaches kids teamwork, patience, and kindness. Got your own photos of local sports or kids’ events? Send to editorial@hudsonreporter.com as a .jpg attachment, with Hoboken in the subject head.
