A fitting tribute

Memorial Day parade posthumously honors grand marshal

It couldn’t have been a finer day for a parade.
The annual Secaucus Memorial Day Parade took place on Saturday, May 17. Beginning at noon, it filled the streets with a succession of sharply dressed marchers and patriotic floats, classic cars and classy rides – like the miniature fire engine that transported the Ladies Fire Auxiliary.
Michael Yaccarino was one of two grand marshals this year. Yaccarino served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.

_____________
The grand marshal honor this year was shared by Michael Yaccarino and (posthumously) Joseph C. Kellenberger.
____________
Sharing the honor was Joseph C. Kellenberger, who passed away at age 79 on March 31. Korean War veteran Kellenberger served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, earning the bronze star.
Kellenberger was represented posthumously by his wife Diane, who viewed the parade from the reviewing stand.
Following the parade, refreshments and entertainment were served at the American Legion Post at Second Street and Centre Avenue, where the band Juke Junction entertained the crowd.
