Jersey City author who witnessed Sept. 11 attacks presents book at University of Cambridge (UK)

A homegrown author, R.C. Mulcahy, presented his Sept. 11 novel at Cambridge’s Saint John’s College on Friday evening, April 25. The event included a black-tie dinner with the author honored for his work. The dinner was held in Saint John’s Combination Room, where General Eisenhower secretly strategized portions of the Allied war effort during World War II.
A few weeks ago Mulcahy was also in the UK to present “One From Two” at Stonyhurst College, one of the premier secondary schools in the world. Stonyhurst’s graduates include foreign Heads of State, Charles Carroll (a signatory of the United States Declaration of Independence) and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
In the upcoming months, Mulcahy will continue his way through the book circuit. Offers to speak about “One From Two” have been extended by Harvard University and Yale University’s Barnes & Noble.
Mulcahy witnessed the September 11 attacks from a Jersey City office tower. “One From Two” serves as a salute to the World Trade Center and to those harmed by a tragedy of chance.
Mulcahy noted, “The book is a ‘rebuilding’ novel, which weaves together the story of the construction, collapse and revitalization of the World Trade Center with the personal crises faced by the principal characters. The symbolic analogy of the Twin Towers and other plot lines were assembled with the help of many experts.”
With the book nearly a decade in the making, research took Mulcahy to San Francisco, London and many points in between. Included among the visited institutions were Harvard University, Princeton University, University of Oxford (UK) and Stanford University.
To honor those lost on September 11, 2001, Mulcahy is donating all of his profits (i.e., royalties less taxes) from book sales to assist those harmed by a tragedy of chance. The proceeds will be given to the Macklis Laboratory at Harvard University.
The author currently resides in Redding, Conn. with his wife and three children. He grew up in the Greenville section of Jersey City, New Jersey, where much of the novel is set. He witnessed the September 11 attacks from a Jersey City office tower in Newport.
