Intruder invades schools in Union City and Weehawken

UNION CITY AND WEEHAKWEN — What was he looking for? A certain student? Money? Or something more?
On Thursday, a school in Union City was on lockdown for two hours after school staff spotted an unknown man in the basement going through a secretary’s desk.
Then, at the end of that same day, the person was seen on a security camera in Daniel Webster Elementary School in Wehawken, wearing a backpack. That school was also locked down, as the camera did not show him exiting. Even though it was around 5 p.m., there were students in the gymnasium for a school function. Parents were told to sign out their children.
The Union City school, George Washington Elementary, issued a letter to parents on Friday: “We want to assure you that the Union City Board of Education, Union City Police Department and Mayor Brian Stack are working collaboratively with all authorities to apprehend the individual who entered our school.” The letter revealed little other information.
