SECAUCUS AND BEYOND – While the municipality of Secaucus continues to clean-up and recover from Hurricane Sandy, officials have been collecting donations and distributing food, supplies, and support to neighboring towns.
The municipality is accepting donations of blankets, clothes, non-perishables, baby formula and diapers, bleach, mops, and trash bags at the Secaucus Public Library, the Recreation Center, and 101 Centre Ave.
The Secaucus Public Library will host an emergency blood drive Nov. 9 from 2:30 to 8 p.m. For more information, call (201) 251-3703.
Secaucus-based Goya Foods sent the municipality 1,000 meals a day, which the town has distributed to Hoboken, Union City, and North Bergen. The Spanish food company donated over 300,000 pounds of Goya products and over 25,000 meals to victims of Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey.
The municipality supplied Saint Margaret’s Parish in Little Ferry in Bergen County with trays of food.
Mayor Michael Gonnelli said that the town was preparing for the nor’easter.
“There are so many trees that have been compromised,” said Gonnelli. “It could cause some bad problems again.” He noted that if there is a lot of rainfall it could flood low-lying areas and actually expand into some parts of the town that were not affected by Sandy. The municipality was preparing for the upcoming storm just as it had for Hurricane Sandy in rebuilding berms, checking and testing all equipment, and reviewing resources.
