Hoboken soldier

Dear Editor:
I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season. I received a letter in the mail from one of our Hoboken soldiers and I wanted to share it with all of you.
Dear Mrs. Peluso,
I wanted to take this chance to thank you for all the great show of support you have shown me. Adopt a Hoboken Soldier has given me all the comforts of home while dealing with overseas deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This deployment has proven to be very difficult for me, especially being away from my family and my great friends and co-workers from Hoboken.
From the cookies, the cards, the stockings, and all the holiday wishes, my time here is going by much faster because of you. The patriotism and support you have shown constantly give me the motivation to keep on going, to make it thru this deployment, and to return home to be with all of you. My comrades have all enjoyed this, too. They love the cookies and often visit me to get some more. I tell them its how Hoboken people make the difference. They laugh and always say the same thing, “I have to visit Hoboken when I get back!” I tell them it’s an experience they’ll never forget.
I want to give my regards to all the fine members of the American Legion post in Hoboken. Tell them that I appreciate everything they are doing, and remind them that I am merely trying to live in their shoes and mimic the same sacrifice they have all given for their country. They are true HEROES in my book, and it makes me feel very proud to live a few days in their shoes! The honor is mine. Thank you again for everything you do, it shall never be forgotten. In this holiday season I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous Happy New Year! May God continue to bless the hearts of each and every one of you.
On behalf of my unit, the US army, and the US Armed Forces, I SALUTE YOU!

Serving proudly for you,
SPC Josue “Josh” Velez
