Hoboken police confirm Artie Lange suicide attempt; had nine wounds from 13-inch Wolfgang Puck knifeSay he was unconscious on floor when mother found him

HOBOKEN AND BEYOND — Police provided additional information to the Hoboken Reporter newspaper this afternoon regarding well-known comedian Artie Lange, who lives in Hoboken, and his suicide attempt over the weekend.
They confirmed that Lange was taken to a hospital this past Saturday after paramedics found him unconscious, bleeding on the floor of his Hoboken apartment.
The comedian, who is a sidekick on Howard Stern’s radio show, has battled various addictions for years, but his family and Stern himself were hush-hush over the latest incident. This morning, the New York Post published information from anonymous sources saying that it was a suicide attempt.
This afternoon, police told the Reporter that Artie Lange’s mother made a 911 call at 9:36 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2 after finding the comedian bleeding on the floor.
Paramedics found Lange unconscious with nine “self-inflicted stab wounds,” according to a police spokesman, from a 13-inch Wolfgang Puck kitchen knife.
Lange was transported from his condominium at the Shipyard Development in uptown Hoboken, to Jersey City Medical Center, but police would not comment today on his present whereabouts.
Police called it a suicide attempt and have no further investigation planned.
