HRYNKIEWICZ, EDWARD J

A mass of Christian burial was held Nov. 12 at St. Anthony of Padua Polish Roman Catholic Church for Edward J. Hrynkiewicz, 91. He passed away Nov. 7 at the Bentley Assisted Living in Branchville. A native and lifelong resident of Jersey City, Edward was a graduate of Dickinson High School. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II, his last duty assignment being the 861st Signal Company at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army in Nov. 1945 with the rank of Sergeant.
Following the war, he worked for 30 years as a wholesale grocer in the family’s business, Polo Wholesale Grocery Company, in Hoboken. When the business closed in 1975, he went on to be employed by Mid-Easter Corp. as a warehouse supervisor, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Edward was a lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Polish Roman Catholic Church in Jersey City. An avid New York Yankees fan, his hobbies included woodworking, gardening, fishing, bowling, and reading novels. Edward was the son of Anthony Hrynkiewicz and Mary (nee Korzieneska). He was predeceased by his wife of 27 years, Irene (nee Deszczynski) in 1977, and his sister, Mary Maske, in 1999.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Pietrucha, of Denville; first cousin, Janina Kuziemko and her husband Vincent, of Bayonne, and their children Christine and Thomas; nephew, Edward Maske and his wife Kathleen, of Sparta; niece, Marion Curcio and her husband William, of Sparta; niece, Joan Maffetone and her husband Peter, of Ridgewood; nephew, John Pietrucha and his wife Trudy, of Midland Park; grandniece, Maureen Maske, of Brooklyn; grand-niece, Michele Dickerson and her husband Jesse, of Hanover; grandniece, Marisa Daggett and her husband Dennis, of Sparta; grandnephew, Christopher Curcio, of New York; and grandniece, Kathryn Maffetone, of Ridgewood. Services arranged by the Plaza Funeral Home, Jersey City.
