To the Editor:
Access to the Hudson Bergen Light Rail in four strategic locations in Bayonne has made Bayonne one of the most transit-enabled places to reside or locate a business in the New York area. Recognizing that security on the Hudson Bergen Light Rail can be an issue on rare occasions, I discussed the need for increased Hudson Bergen Light Rail security with my Third Ward Councilman, Ray Greaves. I have seen an increased presence from both our Bayonne Police and New Jersey Transit Police riding the light rail through our city and at the Hudson Bergen Light Rail stations thanks to the concerted efforts of Councilman Greaves working closely with Bayonne Police Chief Ralph Scianni, Mayor Mark Smith, and the leadership of New Jersey Transit. Further, Councilman Greaves and Chief Scianni have assured me they will remain vigilant when it comes to the safety and security of Bayonne residents who rely on the Hudson Bergen Light Rail to travel throughout Bayonne to other Hudson County “Gold Coast” communities. Thank you Councilman Greaves, Chief Scianni, and Mayor Smith. We appreciate your advocacy for the safety and wellbeing of Bayonne citizens, visitors, and business owners.
