BAYONNE – Anthem of the Seas, the third largest cruise ship in the world, encountered rough weather off the southeast coast of the U.S. on Sunday, which caused damage to the ship and made it change course, multiple media outlets reported.
Anthem is one of the flagship crafts of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and sails out of RCC’s Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne.
The ship left Bayonne on Saturday for a Bahamas cruise. On Sunday it was hit by a winter storm. High winds and waves were reported.
Royal Caribbean said the ship was safe to be at sea, according to CBS News. It had been diverted as a precautionary measure, the Coast Guard told the news network.
Some damage was caused to one of the cruise liner’s public areas, according to media reports.
Passengers were asked to stay in their staterooms.
