Rumors put to rest, Trader Joes is coming to Hoboken

HOBOKEN – Rumors be gone! Hoboken shoppers and visitors won’t have to trek all the way to Edgewater for their fix of Trader Joes’ triple ginger snaps, Speculoos cookie butter or spinach and kale Greek yogurt dip.
The Hoboken City Council unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday, April 27 to accommodate a loading zone for the famed grocer at the loss of 26 parking spaces. The chain store is planned for the ground floor of the 140-unit Advance Realty luxury residential development at Willow Avenue and 14th Street at the base of the Viaduct.
Jared Minatelli, Director of Asset Management for Advance Realty, told the Reporter at the meeting that the chain store is expected to open this fall.
In a town censured for making it difficult for businesses to settle down, many speakers at the meeting hailed the city for welcoming a new supermarket option. The Trader Joes will be the latest in a development boom on the north part of town, adjacent to a movie theatre, new restaurants, and a new theatre space.
“There’s always positives and negatives about everything,” said Brian Angelson before the meeting referring to the loss of the parking. Angelson said he tends to do his shopping at ShopRite and Kings, but Trader Joes offers an exciting alternative.
“They have great organic product at affordable prices and I can’t wait,” he added.
