JERSEY CITY — An employee of Norfolk Southern on County Road in Jersey City was killed in an industrial accident at the facility Monday just before 1:30 p.m., said city spokesperson Jennifer Morrill.
“Initial reports indicate that the wire that is part of a crane lifting a freight container snapped, causing the container and the crane to collapse on the employee. He was pronounced dead at the scene,” Morrill said.
The name and age of the victim is not being released pending notification of next of kin. JCPD is on the scene collecting information and witness statements. Norfolk Southern Rail Police are leading the investigation and OSHA has been notified.
