North Bergen DPW is Ready for Winter

With brand new equipment ready and plenty of salt on hand, North Bergen’s Department of Public Works is primed for the winter season.
The DPW purchased three new pieces of heavy equipment to assist with keeping local roads clear this winter. Two new snowplows and spreaders will replace two older units, while a new Skid-Steer Bobcat will work in spaces too tight for the larger equipment.
The vehicles, which were purchased under state contract, will be used year-round, according to Public Works Commissioner Frank Gargiulo. In warmer months they will be outfitted to handle construction, hauling, asphalt, and other work. The older units they replace will be auctioned off, said DPW Superintendent John Shaw.
In preparation for winter the DPW has also prepared a stock of 4,000 tons of salt to help keep North Bergen’s streets clear.
