New Jersey’s food banks need our help! Higher food costs, rising unemployment and other financial hardships caused by the current economic climate are leading a greater number of people than usual to seek assistance from food distribution programs.
Although the holiday season has ended, when more people are compelled to make charitable contributions, we have to hold onto that giving spirit. Donations are needed now more than ever. This year, the state has seen a 20 to 30 percent increase in the number of people seeking assistance. Food banks across the state are experiencing shortages because they are serving so many more people.
The recent economic collapse has been called the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Someone you know is probably receiving much-needed assistance from a food bank.
Please help your local food bank – today – with a donation of nonperishable goods or cash. Some local businesses are also helping to raise awareness. For those within The Provident Bank’s service area, the bank will be conducting a special drive called “Deposit $1 of Hope.” It will support the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, which provides food to hundreds of local food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, daycare centers, homeless shelters and residential programs. Anyone, whether a customer or not, can come in to one of our branches to make a donation.
