Summer Fun

We have a wonderful community with many opportunities for summer fun right here in town. I am very excited about the events we have planned for the next few months. We want to continue the trend that got started with the Memorial Day Parade in May of bringing people together for a good cause and a great time, and we hope you’ll come out and join us. Here are some ideas for things to do right here in your hometown.
Take a walk or bike ride through town or along any of our riverfront walkways.
Enjoy one of our Thursday night Concerts in the Park.
Watch your favorite movies under the stars (in the park or at the Recreation Center).
Stop by the Farmers’ Market any Friday and pick up some Jersey fresh produce.
Go fishing in the Duck Pond
Take a canoe, kayak, or pontoon boat ride at Laurel Hill Park through the Hackensack Riverkeeper Program (hackensackriverkeeper.org).
Picnic in Schmidt’s Woods or take a dip in the town pool.
Watch a sunrise or sunset at Mill Creek Point.
Take in a ballgame.
Don’t forget to get rid of your old possessions at the Giant Flea Market on July 17.
Stop by the K&S Picnic and support this worthy organization.
Think about joining one of our many civic organizations to give back to your community.
Stop by any firehouse on Monday evening or Sunday morning and say hello to our volunteers.
Take the kids to one of our many parks.
Enjoy one of our numerous senior programs
View the abundant wildlife from the high school boardwalk.
Fly a kite at Mill Creek Point.
Practice your golf game.
Come to one of our new and exciting concerts at Harmon Meadow or Transit Village, enjoy the show, relax and meet your new neighbors.
Read a book and relax in our state-of-the-art Library.
Join the Rec Center and get in shape.
Shop, dine and relax at one of your favorite restaurants.
Catch a train to Manhattan at the Secaucus Junction train station and take in a show in the greatest city in the world.
Take in a movie at the new Kerasotes theatre in Harmon Meadow.
Just sit back and relax in your own back yard.
Keep your eyes open for upcoming events. You are sure to be surprised.
I also want to let you know about a partnering program that we started with local businesses. We are working with the business community to form an Employment Assistance Program. Residents should bring resumes to the Town Clerk’s office to be kept on file. When local companies have openings, they will inform the Town Clerk who will then fax resumes to the company. If the company is interested, they will call the candidate to schedule an interview.
And last, I want to remind you to take precautions when we have a heat wave like the one we had last week. If you do not have air conditioning and need a place to cool off, we have Cooling Centers at the Senior Center located at 101 Centre Ave. which is open from 8 am to 3 pm and at the Town Library, which is open from 9 am to 9 pm. We are also making a list of residents who have special needs or who may rely on life sustaining medical equipment in the event of an extended power failure. We want to know who has special needs and the needs are.
Additionally, we are making a list for residents who would like to get a phone call during heat waves, extended power outages or severe weather advisories and would like to know if you want to be on that list. If you have any questions or need assistance in the future, please call the Office of Social Services at (201) 330-2014 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. After 3 p.m., call (201) 330-2060 or (201) 867-8000. As always, in the event of an emergency, call 911.
Have a great summer!
