Dear Editor
Yes, the four brothers in the Kennedy family all served their country in the military, (Joe in Korea) a proud, honored legacy of Hoboken past.
Joe Kennedy, a firefighter in “The Mile Square” for three decades, an Air Force serviceman, quietly passed, joining his brothers Richard, Mick and Tom. Not too many Hoboken Families had four brothers who contributed ten years of armed service. We remember their work as civil servants providing safety and security in the boxed town.
The bushy eye-browed Joe, the oldest of the Kennedys, whose father was the Hoboken Fire Captain in his day, will now join his immediate family.
He often joked that he could never convince his brothers to visit Ireland as many times as he did, but I can only imagine what the conversations will be held on March 17th.
Joe once told me an Irish proverb around St. Patrick’s Day when he was the Grand Marshall of the parade.
“Come live in my heart and you’ll never have to pay rent.” That’s Fireman, Air Force Joe Kennedy from Hoboken.
