Bye Bye, Biggie’s – older clam bar location to merge with new in Hoboken

HOBOKEN – The 70-year-old original location of Biggie’s Clam Bar on Hoboken’s west side is set to close up shop in October as operations are moved to the more modern location on Newark Street, a few blocks from the Hoboken train station and the waterfront.
But customers will miss the original, they’re saying in the comments section of Hudsonreporter.com (see link in last paragraph).
Hoboken was a blue collar town in the 1940s when Joseph Yaccarino, “Joe Biggie,” an immigrant from Naples, went corner to corner shucking raw clams from pails to patrons. Eventually he operated a pushcart, selling clams on the half shell for a nickel a piece. Biggie recruited his son Michael Yaccarino into the business, and in 1946 father and son opened Biggie’s Clam Bar at 318 Madison St.
