Funeral services took place Aug. 10 for Bernice “Jackie” Aversa, 89. She died Aug. 7 at the Van Dyke Manor in Montclair. Born in Leakesville, Miss., she lived in Jersey City for the past 64 years. She received her Nursing Degree from Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans and served as a nurse in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Bernice worked as the director of nursing at the Jewish Home & Rehab Center in Jersey City for 34 years before retiring in 1991.
She was the wife of the late Angelo Aversa, the mother of Karen Dammann and her husband Robert, Beverly Zulauf and her husband David and Pamela Aversa, the grandmother of Tara Fantacone, Katelyn Zulauf, Jenny Smith and the late Allison Zulauf, the great-grandmother of Ava and Jack Fantacone, the sister of Anne Williams and the sister-in-law of Jean Turner.
Services arranged by the Parow Funeral Home, 185 North Arlington.
