Agosto, Feeley Duel Ends in Islanders Win

With both squads focused on playing “on the attack”, the (2-1-2) Islanders and the (0-3-1) Penguins locked horns in a head spinning JCC of Bayonne’s Sr. Division floor hockey scoring fest. Blasting out to a 3-0 lead on three goals by Shawn Agosto with Jacob Kowal on the assists, the Islanders seemed unstoppable. Waking up from their offense doldrums, the Penguins’ Megan Feeley quickly made it a 3-2 skirmish with two goals, one unassisted and the other via an assist by Nicholas DePinto. Laying “the pedal to the medal”, the Islanders raced out to an 8-2 advantage with Kowal (1 goal, 1 assist), Agosto (3 goals, 1 assist), Elliott Santana (1 goal, 1 assist), and Drew Radil (1 assist) doing all the damage. Taking advantage of a power play, the Penguins went on a run of their own with three rapid fire scoring darts by Harsh Easwar (1) and Megan Feely (2). Still leading at 8-5, the Islanders landed another body blow as Elliott Santana zipped in a goal to put the Isles up 9-5 at the halfway point of the bout. Undeterred, the Penguins kept brawling as Feeley (1) and Easwar (2) blasted in three goals to pull within a goal at 9-8, Islanders. Bogged down in a “turf war” both teams battled up and down the court trading goals down the stretch eventually finding themselves deadlockedat 11 all after goals by the Isles, Santana and Kowal got trumped by three net jets by the Pens’ Megan Feeley. Taking their first lead of the game, Feeley’shothand and ninth goal (1 assist) on the day made it 12-11, Penguins with just five minutes remaining. Returning to the court like the US cavalry coming to the rescue, Shawn Agosto dominated the final minutes by deflating the Penguins’ victory hopes as Agosto bulled in three straight goals to ice the Islanders’ 14-12 win.
