Mickiewicz, Cifuentes shine in Devils win

The JCC of Bayonne’s Sr Division floor hockey league got underway with an opening day bout featuring the Islanders and the Devils. Sparked by the pinpoint shooting of team captain Marek Mickiewicz, the Devils built a 4-0 advantage with Mickiewicz doing all the scoring as Alejandro Cifuentes (3) and Tristan Wolenski (1) rang up assists. Hoping to right the ship, the Islanders got a boost from Sebastian Valles who took a breakaway pass from Jacob Kowal and turned it into a net rocker making it 4-1, Devils. Entering into the final fifteen minutes, the Isles’ defense swarmed the Devils hot handed “goal getter”, Mickiewicz in hopes of slowing their scoring. The move only set up another scoring barrage from the Devils’ speedster Alejandro Cifuentes, who lit up the scoreboard with a “hat trick” to put the Devils up 7-1. Reeling from the Devils’ scoring power, the Islanders hammered back with a court long pass from Drew Radil to Jacob Kowal who hit his mark making it 7-2, Devils. Down by a heap with five minutes remaining, the Islanders pulled their goalie and added hard striking Emya Irwin into the offensive attack. With the shots pouring on net, goal tender Zachary Ciemelewski continued his brilliant effort in net triggering another scoring blitz by the Devils as Cifuentes, Mickiewicz, and Tristan Wolenski each bulled in goals to seal the Devils’10-2 victory.
