Lincoln tunnel tube closing Sunday for 5K race

WEEHAWKEN – The Port Authority will host the 30th Annual Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey on Sunday, April 10. The event, which begins at 8 a.m., will require the closing of the tunnel’s south tube to traffic for approximately four hours. The tunnel’s north and center tubes will remain open and no delays are anticipated due to traditionally light traffic at that time.
The event began in 1987 and has been held every year since that time. The 3.1-mile race, which attracted approximately 3,000 participants in 2015, raised $225,000 for Special Olympics New Jersey.
The race begins in New Jersey, where participants will proceed through the tunnel’s south tube into Manhattan and return through the same tube to cross the finish line in Weehawken.
Participants will assemble at 6 a.m. at the NJ Transit bus parking lot, located at 400 Boulevard East in Weehawken.
