19th Annual Ahern Foundation Golf Classic Set for May 23rd

The Ahern Foundation is poised to celebrate surpassing the $100,000 mark when this year’s scholarships are awarded. Please join us as we commemorate 18 years of giving back to the community at the 19th Annual Don and Arlene Ahern Memorial Golf Classic. It will be held on May 23 at the renovated Weequahic Park Golf Course in Newark. The golf package price is $150 and includes entry in the $50,000 Jet Blue Challenge & Hole-in-One Prizes, 8 a.m. Continental Breakfast, 9 a.m. Shotgun start, green fees and cart, lunch on the turn, 3 – 6 p.m. reception on-site awards reception, contest and raffle prizes, and 7 – 9 p.m. pizza, antipasto and beer at Kuhl’s.

This tournament benefits the Don and Arlene Ahern Memorial Scholarship Program. Don was an educator and coach in Bayonne for over 30 years, most notably serving as the Principal of Alternate Education and Varsity Football Head Coach, both at Bayonne High School. Arlene was the founder and heart and soul of the Ahern Foundation which was created after Don’s death in 1995. Arlene lost her long battle with cancer in 2001. The Foundation awards two $2500 college scholarships each year to local high school students. Since 1998, the Ahern Foundation has awarded $99,500 in college scholarships.
