A funeral mass was held March 18 at Immaculate Conception Church, Secaucus, for Rita Nitschke. She passed away March 14 at Fritz Reuter Life Care Retirement Community in North Bergen. Born and raised in Hoboken, Rita lived in Secaucus for 63 years. She worked for the Secaucus Board of Education as a Clerk retiring in 1986. She was a lifelong member of the PTA and also belonged to Secaucus Child Guidance Foundation, Secaucus Fire Ladies Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters, and the Rosary Society. Predeceased by her husband Oscar in 2000, her brothers Gene and Theodore Vodopia, she is survived by her son Gene Nitschke, her three daughters Kathryn Helliker, June Bolger, Nancy Smentkowski, eight grandchildren Paul, Michael, Cindy, Bryan, Eric, Allyson, Anthony, and Luke, 13 great grandchildren Kyle, Conner, Jordan, Jonah, Jaden, Katie-Lynn, Melody, Liam, Paul, Presley, Lincoln, Landon, and Liv. Services arranged by the Mack Memorial Home, Secaucus.
