Comets, Sonics rumble to a draw

Slipping to (2-3), the Rockets regrouped and readied themselves for their week four JCC of Bayonne Indoor Soccer Sr. Division night cap versus the (1-3) Sonics. Jumping out to another fast start, the Rockets once again built a 2 goal advantage as Thomas Arias stormed the net twice as Emya Irwin and Nicholas DePinto pitched in on the assists. A sense of Déjà vu had to creep into the Rockets’ mindset as the Sonics began to roll with Mariam Rasslan (1 goal, 2 assists), Harsh Easwar (2 goals), and Aaliyana Cifuentes (1 goal, 1 assist) lifting their squad out to a 4-2 lead. Returning to a sense of urgency, the Rockets clawed back into the lead as goals by Arias (2) and EmyaIrwin made it 5-4 Rockets with just 2 minutes remaining. Battling for that big “insurance goal” the Rockets’ Kyle O’Hara and Emya Irwin each pounded shots off the Sonics’ post but the score stayed firm. With nineteen seconds left on the clock, the Sonics cashed in to force overtime as Alejandro Cifuentes assisted Easwar on his third goal of the bout. The overtime shoot-out had a couple close calls but in the end the 5-5 deadlock stood as both squads fought to a draw.
