Come on now …

To the Editor:

In discussing the unfortunate closing of the church, a pastor made the striking declaration that “A parish is more than a building.” Likewise, a school refers to children under the trusting care of a dedicated teacher.
If you accept the validity of the above statement, then the agenda of the BOE, the concern of parents, and the focus of society should be on ending the impasse over a contract. Another four-year delay would be sorrowful.
With a new mayor, president of BOE, and negotiator, there should be a fresh perspective on the significant role of a teacher in the learning process.
Students, parents, and citizens of this community deserve more from a school system, which seeks to foster early retirements, rapid staff movement to other cities, and physical improvements at the expense (no pun intended) of a highly qualified faculty.
Finally, whether you agree or disagree with this letter, thank your teacher for being able to read it!
