BAYONNE – Waterfront officials are trying to determine what precipitated the Friday, Jan. 29 longshoreman strike that immobilized the metropolitan area’s port operations.
Among the facilities affected by the work stoppage on Friday was the GCT Terminal, which straddles Bayonne and Jersey City.
The terminal’s workers are members of the International Longshoremen’s Association.
The Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor said it was starting an inquiry into what caused what it said was an illegal walkout, according to a published report.
The waterfront commission said it had begun an investigation into who ordered the unexpected walkout, nj.com reported.
Also affected last week were the Port Elizabeth/Port Newark and Staten Island facilities.
Much of the shipping cargo movement resumed late Friday and over the weekend. Normal operations were expected on Monday, Feb. 1.
