Bayonne firefighters battle five-alarm blaze

BAYONNE – City firefighters fought a five-alarm fire for about three and a half hours on Tuesday, Jan. 19 on Bayonne’s main shopping thoroughfare of Broadway.
The blaze is believed to have broken out at 745 Broadway, near 32nd Street, in the three-story structure that houses Castle Clock & Gift Shop. It started about 4:30 p.m. and was under control about 8 p.m., according to a daily newspaper. The fire’s official origin and cause are yet to be determined, Bayonne Fire Chief Gregory Rogers said.
Adjoining structures at 743 and 747 Broadway were also affected.
Princessa Restaurant is located at 743 Broadway, the former site of the Globe Delicatessen.
The roofs at 743 and 745 were collapsed, and there was major damage to the third floors of both buildings. There was also fire damage to the roof at 747 Broadway.
There were no serious injuries, Rogers said.
At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, Broadway between 32nd and 33rd streets was still blocked off to the public.
