Jersey City is losing Channel 1

Dear Editor:
In 2012, there was a public hearing (can be seen on SpeakNJ.com) on the Comcast contract. Then Mayor Healy spoke before the city council and said Comcast needs to do a better job for Jersey City. He knew Comcast wanted Channel 1. Healy said Channel 1 is our “our brand” and it belongs to Jersey City. He also wanted Comcast to give Jersey City another Channel for the Board of Education instead of sharing Channel 1 with the city.
Comcast viewers now know recently, Channel 1 has been taken over by Comcast as Xfinity and Jersey City has been assigned Channel 186 and Channel 97 for the Board of Education so I thank Mayor Healy for asking for the additional channel but I want to know why Mayor Fulop has been silent on losing Channel 1.
Instead of hiring an outside law firm to appeal the taxes of private citizens at the Hudson Board of Taxation, he should have hired lawyers to appeal before the Board of Public Utilities on Comcast. Mayor Fulop wants to brand the city so why allow this brand to go? JCTV1 (Channel 1) has been part of Jersey City since the 1990s.
Who is going to remember to turn to Channel 186 during an emergency when for over twenty years, Jersey City residents turned to Channel 1?
