A funeral mass was offered Nov. 24 at Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church, Hoboken, for James J. Cowan, 97, of Hoboken. He passed away peacefully on Nov. 21. He was born in Jersey City to the late James and Maryellen. James retired after more than 30 years with Teamsters Local 201, and went on to work an additional 10 years for Greenwich Mills in Secaucus. A proud Army Air Force veteran, James served his country from 1942-1945. A parishioner of Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church in Hoboken, James was an usher for over 30 years. He was also a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. Predeceased by his wife, Eileen Rose in 2013; and his siblings, Joseph Cowan, Helen Dadson, and Kathleen White. He will be sadly missed by his four devoted children: James Cowan, Joan Hoffman and her husband Andrew, Joseph and his wife Mary, and Kevin Cowan. A great joy in James’ life were his grandchildren; Catherine, Andrew, Michelle, Elizabeth, Christopher, and Colleen. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
