Bayonne community makes sure needy have turkey

BAYONNE – Local business people, city officials and other civic-minded people gathered at H.I.G.H.W.A.Y.S. on Hobart Street on Monday, Nov. 23, to unload 300 turkeys that will be given to the needy of Bayonne for Thanksgiving.
The program was started more than 20 years ago by Bayonne resident Cookie Daughtrey, and has been carried on in her memory. The continuation of the turkey donations is made possible through the efforts of Joe Pagano of Inserra ShopRite, Mayor James Davis, Assemblyman-elect Nicholas Chiaravalloti, and many others.
City Council President Sharon Nadrowski (pictured) said a list of needy families has been developed, and that the families on it were invited to pick up their turkeys with all the trimmings in time for Thanksgiving.
