A mass of Christian burial took place Nov. 2 at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church for Harold E. Brown, a lifelong resident of Jersey City. He passed away at Aleris/Hamilton Park Nursing Home on Oct. 28. A graduate of St. Mary’s High School, he attended the University of New Hampshire (Keene) and later graduated from St. Peter’s University with a B.S. in history. Harold was employed by New York University as a bookkeeper for over 20 years, retiring in 2012.
Harold was past president of the N.J. State Chapter of the Irish Northern Aid Society (NORAID).
He was the son of the late William “Sonny” and Margaret Brown and the grandson of the late Nora, a native of County Waterford, Ireland, and John Geraghty. He was predeceased by his sisters Barbara Ann Brown and Eileen Cassidy. Harold is survived by siblings Elaine Rowan (Jimmy), Robert, Richard, William Jr. and John (Reem) Brown. He is the uncle of Grace Byrd (Ian), Jacquelyn Svercauski (Rob) and Ronald Cassidy (Rene), great uncle of Robyn and Cassidy Svercauski, and brother-in-law of Jack Cassidy.
