A funeral mass took place June 22 at Madonna Church on the Hill for Dr. Giuseppe Mauriello, 92, of Weehawken. He passed away June 15. He was born in Sant’Andrea di Conza (Italy), the only son of the late Marco and Maddalena Mauriello. He earned his medical degree at the University of Naples, Italy, and served as a Medical Corps Officer in the Italian military. He completed his internship and residency in anesthesiology at Jersey City Medical Center and Martland Medical Center in Newark (now known as UMDNJ).
Dr. Mauriello was a member of the Greenville Hospital Anesthesiology Department in Jersey City for 20 years and a staff physician for over 20 years at the Meadowlands Sports Complex until 2007. A well respected and skilled anesthesiologist, he practiced medicine for 57 years and was honored by the Hudson County and NJ Medical Societies.
He was the husband of the late Letizia Mauriello, who passed away four months ago. Born in Naples, Italy, she earned a Doctorate in Latin and Classical Studies and taught in Italy prior to moving to New Jersey and raising a family. She was known for her unwavering loyalty and commitment to her family, her cooking and baking skills, and always being dressed up even if she was just going to pick up her kids at school. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. He was the father of Magdalen, Mark, Joseph, Robert, Letizia Mauriello-Ioviero and Anthony Mauriello; grandfather of Mark, Chiara, Joseph, Letizia, Ava, Anthony, Lucia, Beatrice, Marcello, Letizia and Giovanna; brother of Lucia Mauriello, the late Graziella D’Angola and the late Assunta Mauriello.
