Summer in Secaucus
It’s summertime in Secaucus. The weather is warmer, the pool is open, and activities, festivals and events are in full swing.
The season kicked off last month with the annual Memorial Day Parade and most recently with the annual Street Fair in the plaza. Residents enjoyed a touch of nostalgia for three days of fun, food and entertainment with family, friends and neighbors. Children were fascinated with the petting zoo, amazed by the magician, thrilled with rides and crafts, face painting and many other games.
There are plenty more fun filled days planned throughout the season. Come on down to Buchmuller Park this Saturday, June 13 for a family Funival, to end the school year. There are traditional games including tug-o-war, egg toss, rock wall, bounce house and obstacle course to keep the day exciting. Like hot dogs? There will also be a hot dog eating contest at noon. Bring your appetite! This is a great opportunity to meet with other local organization volunteers. Your support makes a difference.
We are also pleased to announce the first annual Secaucus Corporate soccer challenge Tournament to commemorate the opening of Kane Stadium. There are sponsorship opportunities available. This is a fundraiser to benefit Spectrum Works, to empower individuals with Autism. For more information email Annmarie@spectrumworks.org.
Whatever your age, there is something fun happening all summer long. There are complimentary concerts, and movies in the park, and arts and crafts. Other affordable programs such as youth summer camps, basketball camp, and junior police academy are sure to keep your family busy all summer long. If your child aged 6-18 likes to sing and dance, Showstoppers gives them the opportunity to participate in one of our summer concerts in the park.
The popular concert series kicks off at Xchange on Thursday, June 20 featuring Night Fever, a tribute to the Bee Gees. The season is jam-packed with great bands including Good Vibrations, a tribute to the Beach Boys, followed by a spectacular fireworks display to really kick off summer! The fourth of July festivities at the Municipal Swim Club are Thursday, July 2, starting at 4 p.m. Some other popular bands this summer will feature music by Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, and The Beatles and so much more. We are fortunate to have some very generous corporate sponsors to help make the concert series a summertime success!
But wait, there’s more!
Keep those little ones busy with Totercize every Friday during July and August at Buchmuller Park. “Let’s Meet in the Park” is a fun program where kids can play, create and enjoy the sprinklers in several of our neighborhood playgrounds. There are also special themed events at the pool throughout summer for all youth age groups. And keep in mind, the Teen Center on Front Street is open evenings Monday through Saturday. Mark your calendar on June 25 for the resident Art Show in the Municipal Government Center for a wonderful evening of arts and culture showcasing the many talents of our residents.
Watch for some great events coming up in the fall including the Library Mini Fair, SEF Tricky Tray, Restaurant Night, Wine Tasting and many Halloween programs.
