Local non-profit brings fresh food options to park communities

Farmers Market opens in Union City and North Bergen

Washington Park Association of Hudson County (WPA) has teamed up with Union City and North Bergen to bring fresh, local food options to the communities surrounding Ellsworth Park and J. J. Braddock Park.
On Wednesdays, starting June 3 until Sept. 30, from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Ellsworth Park, 24th Street and Palisade Avenue in Union City, the farmers market will feature fresh food, fruits and other items for sale. Enjoy fresh produce, drinks, and opportunities to buy locally grown, healthy food options provided by Nolasco Farms and Hoboken Farms.
On Sundays, starting June 7 until Aug. 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at J.J. Braddock Park traffic circle at 79th Street in North Bergen, the farmers market will also offer the same fresh foods and opportunities to the surrounding area. Both farmers markets provide not only fresh produce but also programming for all age groups. There will be music, yoga and other opportunities to bring the community closer together.

Volunteers needed

WPA has volunteer opportunities available to help throughout the days of the farmers markets. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community, meet new people, and be involved in these fantastic markets. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. If you want to start volunteering, visit the market manager’s tent during the market hours to get more information or visit the WPA website for more information.
Sponsors of the Union City Ellsworth Park farmers market include: Mayor Brian P. Stack and Board of Commissioners. Sponsors of the JJ Braddock North Bergen farmers market include: Senator Nicholas J. Sacco, Hudson County Executive Thomas DeGise and Hudson County Freeholder Anthony Vainieri.
