Port Authority changes bridge closure schedule

BAYONNE – The Bayonne Bridge will be closed less than originally anticipated this weekend, according to a new statement from the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
“The Bayonne Bridge (is) to remain open during daytime hours this weekend as ongoing construction work continues,” a statement from the agency said on June 4.
The change in plans is part of the agency’s effort to coordinate work on regional transportation projects with other state agencies to lessen traffic impacts.
The bridge will now close from 9 p.m. Friday, June 5, through 7 a.m. Saturday, June 6. In addition, the bridge will close from 10 p.m. Saturday, June 6, through 8 a.m. Sunday, June 7. The bridge will then remain open until 9 a.m. Monday, June 8.
The Bayonne Bridge shuttle service, which provides alternate transportation for pedestrians and cyclists, will operate on this schedule this weekend: 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 5, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 6 and 7.
