HERMAN, ALBIN A.

A mass of Christian burial took place Dec. 29 at St. Mary’s Chapel in Middletown for Albin A. Herman, 86, of Bayville. He passed away Dec. 25 at the Hampton Ridge Nursing Home in Toms River. Albin was born in Jersey City. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a retired deputy chief of police in the Jersey City police department, where he served for 36 years. He was a graduate of Seton Hall University, and the FBI academy’s leadership training program. He taught for many years at the Jersey City police academy. Albin was predeceased by his parents Carl and Mary; his wife Joan of 40 years; and his brothers Edward and Victor as well as his sister Estelle Sozanski. Albin is survived by his children Cheryl Allen and her husband Edward of Middletown; Gary Herman of Bayville; Laura Gough of Toms River; Glen Herman and his wife Lisa of Richlands, N.C., and Scott Herman of Union City. He was also the grandfather of Jaclyn, Allen, Edward Allen, Amy Gough, Courtney Herman, and Christopher Gough. Services arranged by the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home, Middletown.
