Hoboken’s 35 Minute Bootcamps reopens with new rock climbing wall

HOBOKEN – Hudson County’s first indoor rock climbing wall is now open.
After a grand opening this weekend in their new post-Hurricane Sandy location at the Monroe Center, 720 Monroe St., 35 Minute Bootcamps offers a fun, fit activity for the first time in the Hoboken area.
35 Minute Bootcamps started in 2010, offering over 70 cross training classes weekly tailored to the busy professional. After hurricane Sandy destroyed the studio, the business was forced into a temporary space. As the owners adapted to this new space they envisioned new ways to bring fitness to the Hoboken area. As the classes were attended by all ages and fitness levels, they noticed parallels with rock climbing as an alternative fitness activity appropriate for people from all walks of life.
The facility features over 600 square feet of slabs, overhangs, roof and crack climbing. The wall will be open throughout the day, seven days a week and into the evenings, offering hours until at least 11 p.m. on weekends. There will be a modest entrance fee, climbing shoes for rent and climbing chalk provided free of cost. Bouldering classes including an introduction to the sport. Advanced technique and safety will be offered as well.
The boot camp studio in Hoboken has the ambience of a Brooklyn garage, according to founder David Cabral. It is filled with equipment, some purchased and much created.
Workouts aren’t confined to the inside of the studio. Much like he used the streets and parks of his childhood in Brooklyn for his gym, Cabral and his coaches use loading ramps and steps and ladders inside and outside to provide opportunities for participants to learn and practice daily fitness.
“Our Bootcamp studio,” Cabral explains, “is nothing fancy. We don’t have showers and we don’t have lockers. We are a place for people to come and spend a little over half-an-hour learning their own potential. They get a lot of exercise in the ‘nothing fancy’ studio with other people only because they want to achieve their highest physical potential and then they leave for work, home, grocery shopping or childcare – they leave sweaty and smiling.”
