Chinese ship transports massive cranes through Bayonne waters

BAYONNE – A Chinese vessel turned the heads of Bayonne residents Sunday, May 18, when it navigated its way through the Kill Van Kull and under the Bayonne Bridge with its oversized cargo.
The Zhen Hua 10 was transporting three huge cranes to be delivered to Port Newark in Newark Bay for use in the unloading of ships at the location.
“I was fortunate to be one of the few to see this amazing vessel passing through our waterway,” said an onlooker. “It really seemed like it wasn’t going to fit under the bridge.”
The cranes are able to unload the supercargo ships that have necessitated the raising of the Bayonne Bridge’s roadway and the deepening of the Panama Canal.
The cranes were broken down to be transported, and it will take three months to fully reconstruct them at the port.
