Bayonne Bridge to be closed this weekend as project work continues

BAYONNE –The Bayonne Bridge will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, May 16, and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday, May 19, to allow work to proceed on the “Raise the Roadway” project, which will allow larger, more efficient ships to access the region’s port terminals.
The scheduled weekend work will allow for the safe removal of portions of the structure of the bridge and for the lifting of large steel and concrete sections onto the bridge.
The Port Authority’s free weekend shuttle service will run on Friday, May 16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. only. The shuttle service will be suspended on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18 due to the weekend’s full closure. It will return the weekend of May 23.
Shuttles run every hour and make two stops; one at the 214 West 1st St. (West 1st Street and Kennedy Boulevard) in Bayonne, and one at 209 Innis St. (Innis and John streets) in Staten Island. Buses depart from Staten Island on the hour from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Buses depart from Bayonne on the half hour, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
