Bears “D” determined in win

With their place in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Jr. Division Championship round secure, the (8-3) Bears faced the (2-9) Jets in their final regular season matchup. The last time these two teams met, the Jets downed the Bears 40-28 as the Jets dominated both sides of the ball. The Bears jumped out to an 8-0 advantage as Michael Egan dashed in for a 35 yard TD run followed by a two point safety as the Bears’ league leading defense continued to ring up points. The Jets “D” made a statement of their own as Declan McCormick, Alanis Concepcion, Aaliyana Cifuentes, and Alejandro Cifuentes joined forces to notch two huge safeties to make it an 8-4 game. At the halfway point in the bout, both teams’ offenses seemed “up on blocks” until a 25 yard run by the Bears’ Nicholas Resua gave his squad some traction and a 14-4 lead. Resua then aided his team’s effort by picking off a Jets’ pass deep in Bears’ territory. Boasting the league’s top scoring offense, the Jets stayed grounded inspite of some great route running by Benjamin and Owen Stack. After battling for every inch, the Bears’ QB Matt Miceli went to the air finding his “go to guy” Ryan “Iron” Griffin slippin free for a 40 yard strike making it 20-4, Bears. With the clock becoming a huge factor, the Bears turned to their potent stable of running backs to control the clock with Anthony Fraser, Egan, Griffin, Miceli and Resua grounding and pounding for a 20-4 win.
