Tropical Storm/Hurricane Chantal unlikely to affect Northeast

Forecasters said on Tuesday afternoon that Tropical Storm Chantal may become Hurricane Chantal before it reaches Hispaniola, the island that contains the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The National Weather Service has issued a hurricane watch for portions of the Dominican Republic. However, forecasters do not believe that the storm will pose any danger to a storm-weary Northeast.
Forecasters believe the mountains of Hispaniola and the wind shear will start weakening Chantal by Friday. The storm is likely to be just a depression when it hits the Bahamas, according to meteorologists.
