West New York mayor’s father to get ceremonial street naming

WEST NEW YORK — At 5:30 p.m. Friday, the corner of Palisade Avenue and 60th Street will be renamed by Mayor Felix E. Roque as “Dr. Jose R. Roque Way,” after a local physician who has become a local icon. Jose Roque is also the mayor’s father.
A Cuban/Spanish emigre, Dr. Roque earned his degree and medical license while tirelessly studying in his one-bedroom apartment on 60th Street, according to a press release.
Roque’s family says his motto is “Study, and you will earn a title no one can take from you.”
